Our dogs

Brera is our first weimaraner, but we never thought it would be the only one.

It is hard finding a right dog – studies of a breed, various consultations, forums and recommendations is a must.

My love to this breed rose gradually, but I should be thankful to one of my beloved friend Indre, whose long-haired weimaraner Taura convinced me forever: this was the perfect breed for me.

I kept looking for those silver grey dogs, but nobody had them here, in Lithuania. Another great breeder and wise friend Irena from Latvia recommended to talk to Jūratė, an enormously enthusiastic girl from Lithuania. With her help I started attending the European owners’ forum and met many amazing people. She taught me a lot, she always knew and still knows every answer. Jūratė helped me with my first shows and stacking lessons and I believe I will always talk to her about every serious question, where strong opinion is needed.

After some research, I have chosen the Imperium Star kennel, located in Poland. This kennel had very interesting imports from far aways – Brazil, Australia. As a coincidence, there was a new, very promising litter coming and I decided to take a girl. A little miracle with blue eyes.

After a famous Sire Ashlaren Caipiroska (imp. Australia) and a pretty elegant Dam Soul Coast Toby’s Special Surprise (imp. Brazil), the litter “I” came to the world on the 26th of April, 2006. Sure, I trusted the breeder – Paulina – and she showed me pics of the girls: I was sure I wanted  a nice, elegant and calm girl. But you never know – maybe she has her Brazilian lines stronger, and that is why she is so active!

From a small polley-woolley Brera with her full name of Italian Brera Imperium Star FCI grew into a very nicely proportioned, crazy and naughty girl. But I love her temperament, as this is what a versatile hunting dog should be.

Brera has done various nasty things at home, but that is nothing compared to her absolute love for us. She tries to show all the time, how much she needs us or how smart she is… She knows how to make me smile and she always holds her head to me if I feel sad.

This girl showed me, how seasons change – from golden fall to charming spring. She taught me patience and tolerance and I really appreciate it.

Though Brera requires a lot of my time – almost all the time, I will not recommend this breed to those who can’t spend much time with their dogs. As an active breed, these dogs have to be tired physically, they were bred for a work and.. I do believe that all dogs need to understand they are needed for any purpose: they need to feel useful! That is why I let Brera search for a hidden sock or toy at home: she feels useful!

After I became a newly-baked owner, Jūratė also attained her wonder Uoga. Our first big experience was our first World Dog Show in November, 2006. This was an amazing trip to Poland, where I saw all those wonderful people from all Europe. We all still keep in touch and you can find them in a ”Our Friends” column.

This trip still continues: shows, training, obedience, shows again, field trials, slow-downs, etc.

Enjoy the future trip with me and Brera.
